Client: Confidential Healthcare Agency Platform
Project: iPad App | VEEVA + Salesforce Integration Role
Role: Lead UX Designer
Overview
Access Next is a nationwide precall planning tool designed to provide health care professionals (HCPs) with up-to-date patient coverage data at the point of care. Built on the VEEVA platform and powered by real-time Salesforce JSON data, the app supports better treatment decision-making by surfacing insurance coverage insights in a streamlined, responsive interface. I led UX design for the MVP, working on a cross-functional Agile team. The app is currently being presented to clients for licensing and will later be branded per client specifications.
The Challenge
We were given only two parameters:
- Build an unbranded MVP in 8 weeks.
- Design a tool that helps HCPs make fast, informed decisions based on what a patient’s health plan will cover.
We had no access to end users or existing platforms to review-just the mandate to simplify complex data and deliver a modern, intuitive solution.
Process & Methodology
Lean UX Framework:
- Identify:
- Defined user goals from client brief and SMEs: rapid access to coverage insights, payer breakdowns, and message templates.
- Outlined core workflows and usage scenarios, focusing on time-constrained reps using the tool during HCP visits.
- Make It:
- Planned Information Architecture, created content map and designed wireframes in Figma based on real-world task flows.
- Created interactive zones for message building, payer insights, coverage summaries, and territory-based filtering.
- Evaluate:
- Conducted design reviews with product leads and engineers.
- Validated JSON field integration from Salesforce to ensure live data binding into the UI.

Key UX Features
-
Dynamic JSON Integration:
Each app session pulls a fresh JSON file from Salesforce to ensure the latest plan coverage data is shown. -
Precall Planning Dashboard:
Provides HCPs with a visual breakdown of national payer mix, restrictions, and top payer coverage across various channels (e.g., Medicare, Commercial, Exchange). -
Template Message Builder:
Allows users to view, edit, and send pre-built HCP messages tailored to current coverage details. -
Multi-Level Filtering:
Filters by channel, coverage type, claim status, account, and territory, with reset-to-default functionality. -
Scalable Architecture:
Built for client customization post-licensing; UI accommodates branding overlays without structural changes.
Results & Outcomes
- Delivered MVP on time in just under 2 months
- Used as a demo for multiple pharmaceutical clients
- Adopted internally by agency as a flagship example of Lean UX success
- Set a reusable model for future app development within the Salesforce + VEEVA ecosystem
Tools Used

Final Thoughts
Access Next demonstrates how a clear UX strategy-even with minimal initial requirements-can guide a product from concept to a marketable MVP. By anchoring the interface in simplicity and real-time data utility, we created a flexible tool ready for white-label deployment in a highly complex industry.
