On Christmas Eve morning, as I was doom scrolling the rising covid infection rates in NYC, I received an email confirming my order from Walmart. The order contained two items, a Mainstays Memory Foam Futon in Black Faux Suede and Equate Flushable Wipes, Fresh Scent, 5 packs of 48 wipes, 240 wipes total. The thing is I didn’t order these things. I checked to see where these items were going to be delivered: [redacted] Ave, Miami, FL 33147 under my name.
I found the house on Google Maps and took a screenshot. Is this a summer home I’d forgotten about? Is that RV my meth lab? I called Walmart and canceled the order. Then I called American Express. They explained Walmart had canceled the pending charge and that I would have had zero liability if it had been processed.
After thinking about it, should I have just let it ship and let these people have these Christmas gifts they ordered for themselves and then called American Express? They are not luxury items. They will be sad when they don’t get their new sofa and whoever needs 240 flushable wipes, that’s a serious health issue that needs to be addressed.
